A return to RCB for Yuzvendra Chahal? Royal Challengers Bengaluru faces competition from two other teams

Chahal will be up for grabs again during IPL 2025 auction, and several teams will want to acquire him, given his capabilities in the middle overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal is really unfortunate. He did so well for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) but was released before the IPL 2022 auction. Later, Rajasthan Royals (RR) acquired him, and Chahal did exceptionally well, ending as their leading wicket-taker in the previous cycle.

However, RR also released him ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, for they had better options to retain. Chahal will be up for grabs again, and several teams will want to acquire him, given his capabilities in the middle overs.

With RCB, we try finding other teams who might be interested in Yuzvendra Chahal.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will have among the biggest purse during the IPL 2025 auction. If we look at their squad, they need to fill several slots, including having a quality wrist spinner in their squad.

They tried Wanindu Hasaranga in the last cycle, but the move didn’t work as well as they would have wanted. Chahal is someone who knows how to operate on a small ground like in Bengaluru and knows the franchise well. So, RCB can go hard after him since they have a big purse and get the best option available in this section.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) had Rahul Chahar, but his performances weren’t close to the expectations, and PBKS had to release him. Now they will hunt for a solid leg-spinner, and among all teams, they have the biggest purse.

So, they can get whoever they want, and Chahal is the finest one available. He will enjoy bowling in Mullanpur, for spinners got a fair bit of success last season, as their average of 24.38 suggests. Chahal knows how to use boundary dimensions in his favour.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

While Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a quality unit, they lacked a solid spinner in their squad. Their spinners had the worst average (38.33) and economy rate (9.14) among ten teams in the previous cycle. Even though they had Mayank Markande, he was inconsistent and also conceded plenty at times.

SRH’s main focus during the auction will be to bolster their bowling unit, and Chahal should be their prime target in the spin department. He is a proven performer and has experience playing at different venues over the years. He is a genuine wicket-taker, something SRH in the middle overs missed last cycle.
