Released KKR star drives up stocks for IPL 2025 auction with a stellar century in Ranji Trophy

His recent knock will make him a hot commodity and can spark a bidding war at the mega-auction.

A Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star, who wasn’t retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, gave a testament to his sheer mettle with a stellar ton in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Odisha.

The knock will play a major role in driving up his stocks for the mega-auction, slated to be held in Jeddah on November 24-25.

Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to their third IPL title earlier this year, reached his ton earlier today off just 101 balls, including 14 boundaries and two sixes. Notably, this was his second consecutive ton this season, slamming his first one (142) against Maharashtra last month.

Shreyas Iyer was surprisingly not retained by the Kolkata outfit ahead of the retention deadline as both parties failed to reach a mutual agreement.

Nevertheless, Shreyas’ recent knock will make him a hot commodity and spark a bidding war, with quite a few franchises expected to go after him in the lookout for an Indian player who can shoulder captaincy duties.

Shreyas Iyer’s ton will send a strong message to selectors

Shreyas Iyer has been out of the reckoning for the Indian Test team for some time as well. He last played during the England Test series at the start of this year and then did not feature in BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players.

While Shreyas was neither picked for the Australia Tests nor for the India A squad shadowing the senior team against Australia A, he looks motivated to continue his run-scoring spree in a bid to force his way back into the Indian Test side. If he manages to maintain the momentum, his domestic performance will definitely send a strong message to the selectors, making it hard for them to ignore him.
