Rishabh Pant hits back at Sunil Gavaskar over comment on his IPL 2025 auction return to Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant is expected to be one of the most sought-after players in the IPL 2025 auction, with every team likely to compete for his services.

Rishabh Pant responds to Sunil Gavaskar’s comment on his IPL 2025 auction return to Delhi Capitals.

Pant was released by Delhi Capitals before the IPL 2025 auction, despite being with the franchise since 2016. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi retained only four players, namely Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar suggested that Delhi Capitals might use the RTM card to bring Rishabh Pant back to the squad. Gavaskar also mentioned that there might have been a disagreement over the retention price.

See, the auction dynamics are completely different, so we don’t know how it will go, but what I feel is that Delhi would certainly want Rishabh Pant back in their squad. Sometimes, you know, when the player is to be retained, there is a talk between the franchise and the player about the fees that are expected,” Gavaskar said.

As you can see, some of the players who have been retained by their franchise, they have gone for more than, say, what the number one retention fee deduction would be. So clearly, I think maybe there was some disagreement over there, but my feeling is that Delhi definitely would want Rishabh Pant back because they need a captain as well. If Rishabh Pant is not in their squad, then they have to look for a new captain as well. So my feeling is Delhi will definitely go for Rishabh Pant,” he added.

Pant Refutes Financial Issues as Reason for Delhi Capitals Exit

Rishabh Pant responded on X to Sunil Gavaskar’s comments, rejecting the idea that financial issues influenced his situation with the Delhi Capitals.

“My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say,” Rishabh tweeted.

Rishabh Pant is expected to be one of the most sought-after players in the IPL 2025 auction, with every team likely to compete for his services. He has set his base price at INR 2 crore. Delhi Capitals have two RTM cards left, one of which can be used on a capped player, but it is unlikely that they will use it on Pant.
