New Report Reveals Shubman Gill’s Commendable Act Allowed Gujarat Titans to Retain Key Players Ahead of IPL 2025 Retention Deadline

Gujarat Titans is set to retain five players.

Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper and star India batter Shubman Gill has displayed a commendable gesture to help the franchise retain key players ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) retention deadline.

Gill has now agreed to take a pay cut in a bid to allow GT to retain key players and enter the IPL 2025 auction with a substantial purse value.

“Shubman Gill has taken this step for the franchise as he wanted GT to enter the auction with as much money in the purse as possible. There were plenty of talented players in the existing pool and the captain taking a paycut has allowed the franchise to retain a lot of them. At such a young age, Gill has already started thinking as a leader and is in constant discussions about the mega auction, and the road ahead,” a source privy to the developments told TOI.

Shubman Gill’s decision help Gujarat Titans retain Rashid Khan

It is understood that the Gujarat-based franchise is set to retain five players ahead of the retention deadline on October 31. Alongside Gill, Afghanistan star Rashid Khan and three other promising players are expected to make the cut. Initially, there were links of Rashid making a move to Mumbai Indians (MI).

The captain’s decision to accept a reduced pay scale has facilitated the franchise to retain their star spinner, who has been part of the squad since its inaugural season in 2022. The report further indicates that Gill fully supported the agreement, prioritizing the team’s future while being mindful of preserving the franchise’s budget.

For the unversed, Shubman Gill took over the captaincy duties last season after Hardik Pandya’s move to MI but had an underwhelming season as a leader with GT finishing at the eighth spot in the points table.
