With the IPL 2025 auction underway, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) enters with a clear plan, retaining five players who form the backbone of their squad.
SRH began the IPL 2025 auction with a big bid for Arshdeep Singh, the Indian left-arm pacer, and went on to bid for them till 15.75 crores, winning the bid. However, despite raising the bid to even 18 crores, Punjab Kings took him back with the RTM option.
But they went ahead and got Mohammed Shami at INR 10 crores to add a valuable pacer to partner Pat Cummins. They went ahead and added another seamer in Harshal Patel to their ranks for INR 6.75 crores to bolster the pace attack. But once again, Punjab Kings raised the RTM paddle, boosting the price up to 8 crores, before pulling out. SRH added Harshal to Shami and Cummins in their pace attack.
Earlier, last year’s runners-up have opted for a mix of proven international stars and up and coming Indian talent. Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Travis Head are the retained overseas trio, ensuring stability in both batting and bowling. Local all-rounders Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy add balance with their ability to contribute across departments.

SRH used ₹75 crore of their ₹120 crore purse in retentions, leaving them with ₹45 crore to fine-tune their team in the auction. With just one Right to Match (RTM) card, SRH’s approach will be about finding the right players to add to their solid retentions and push for another strong season.
