SRH all-rounder proves his utility ahead of IPL 2025 auction with a stellar ton in Ranji Trophy

The 25-year-old also reached the three figures in style with a boundary.

A Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) youngster showcased his incredible batting skillset and proved his all-round utility with a whirlwind century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The ton came in the match between Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

Washington Sundar, who was bought by the SRH franchise during the IPL 2022 season for a whopping amount of INR 8.75 crores, played a deft innings, scoring 152 (269). The 25-year-old also reached the three figures in style with a boundary.

Notably, this was Washington Sundar’s second century in first-class cricket, with his first being against Tripura in 2017. During that match, he opened the batting with Abhinav Mukund and went on to score 159 runs from 231 balls.

Washington Sundar’s ton will help drive up his stocks for IPL 2025 auction

Washington Sundar’s knock will back his cause ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and will definitely rise up his stocks.

SRH has reportedly decided their retention list with Washington not in their priorities. The IPL 2024 runners-up have decided to go with the likes of Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

While Sundar didn’t have the best of seasons in IPL 2024 and could play only two matches, his utility value can make him a sought-after commodity in the IPL 2025 auction.

A decent off-spinner who can bowl tight lines and lengths and operate effectively even in the powerplay, he can also be a handy addition with the bat lower down the order.

Washington also has age on his side and can be a long-term investment, something that franchises look for during the mega auction.

Teams haven’t used Sundar’s strengths to their advantage in IPL, which has resulted in inconsistent performances but a change of franchises might just do the trick for him.
