Three shock retentions CSK might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

We try to find three surprising players CSK can prefer to retain over big names ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might be disappointed with their overall performance in the previous cycle. While they won the 2023 season, CSK failed to qualify for playoffs in the other two editions.

Still, they had a quality unit, with a number of good players impressing at different points. The acquisition of a few players midway through the season boosted their squad further, making them more balanced.

Their retentions and releases will be interesting to see because they will represent a lot of things. We try to find three surprising players CSK can prefer to retain over big names ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Rachin Ravindra

Performance-wise, Rachin Ravindra doesn’t deserve retention since CSK have better players to keep in every department. However, Rachin’s talent is obvious, and his game against spin is improving massively.

Further, he can also give a few overs with the ball, especially at home games where the tracks assist slow bowlers. With age on his side, Rachin can be a long-term investment and will surely come good sooner rather than later, so CSK can invest in him.

Simarjeet Singh

CSK have two obvious picks to retain in the uncapped category – MS Dhoni and Sameer Rizvi. However, Simarjeet Singh is another quality option CSK can opt for because of his rare skillsets and ability to operate effectively in the middle overs.

He has the pace and can bowl those heavy balls into the surface, as he has shown in patches in the league, making him an ideal enforcer. Since he has that extra speed, he has a higher probability of succeeding in other phases and will keep improving from here on.

Tushar Deshpande

For now, Tushar Deshpande seems set to be released by CSK, but they can opt to keep him for numerous reasons. Firstly, Tushar is a genuine powerplay operator, and with the team set to move on from Deepak Chahar, they have the right option in Tushar for this phase.

Further, he has shown ample progress in other phases, and since he is a wicket-taker, his value will be high in the auction. Given how much he has contributed in the last two years, Tushar can be an option to retain over one of the main players.
