Three shock retentions Delhi Capitals (DC) might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

Delhi Capitals (DC) might make a few shocking retentions and keep a few not-so-popular players before the next season.

Delhi Capitals (DC) were among the worst-performing sides in the previous cycle, failing to qualify in all three seasons. During the last edition, they could only win seven games and ended in the sixth position with 14 points.

They had a flawed team with several loopholes and are likely to make big changes ahead of the next season. DC started the change by sacking Ricky Ponting, who was their head coach till the last edition.

While DC had a few quality players, they will be tempted to release a few. However, they might make a few shocking retentions and keep a few not-so-popular players before the next season.

We look at three shocking retentions DC might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Despite performing so well, DC might leave out Jake Fraser-McGurk, for they have better options to retain. However, if DC want, they can keep him as their third retention and pay him INR 11 crores.

Jake is a terrific player of pace and capable of playing at a high strike rate from the first ball, making him an ideal player to open the innings. Further, he can be a long-term investment and will serve the team for years to come, making him a complete package.

Mukesh Kumar

It might seem like an odd choice, but there’s merit in retaining Mukesh Kumar ahead of the auction. Mukesh is a solid Indian player capable of operating effectively in all phases and has gained some experience playing for India.

Indian pacers who can bowl in all phases are generally hard to find, but DC have someone who has done well for them in the past and can be a long-term investment. He will only improve from here on and will soon be in high demand, so DC can simply retain and use him as per the use.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje didn’t perform according to the expectations in the last two years but has shown signs of improvement since the T20 World Cup 2024. He is a genuine express pacer who can bowl brilliantly in the middle and death overs, and such bowlers are not easily available.

He has done well in the league in the past, but injuries derailed his career and took away his zip. However, Nortje is fit and firing again, slowly getting to his best and might return to his peak soon, so DC have a few solid reasons to retain him.
