While leaving out a few, GT can also look to keep a few not-so-popular players and look to build a side around them.
After enjoying two terrific seasons to start their IPL journey, the Gujarat Titans (GT) endured a tough last edition. They could only win five matches and ended in the eighth position with 12 points.
Some major changes are expected ahead of the next edition, and GT’s retentions and releases will be interesting to see. They might leave out a few quality players and build a new one, for they had several holes in their side.
While leaving out a few, GT can also look to keep a few not-so-popular players and look to build a side around them. We look at three shock retentions GT can make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Last year, GT got Shahrukh Khan for INR 7.40 crores, but barring a few knocks, his performances were mostly underwhelming. However, he is a solid pace-hitter, can be flexible with his batting position and can also bowl a bit.
Further, he is also uncapped, so GT can get him back at INR 4 crores, which might be close to his auction value. The pace-hitters are not easily available in the Indian market, and Shahrukh having experience provides him with a better opportunity to succeed.

After getting sold for INR 3.6 crores, Robin Minz didn’t feature in the last edition due to an accident. However, he is still young and can be a long-term investment, so GT can keep him ahead of the mega auction.
GT are set to part ways with Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade and will need a quality wicketkeeper batter. This is where they can invest in Robin, and with the massive potential he has, he will certainly come good sooner or later.
Due to the presence of Rashid Khan, Gujarat Titans might be tempted to leave out Noor Ahmad. However, GT can look to keep him, given he will complete their spin-bowling department and will be a perfect partner to Rashid since they know each other’s game really well.
Noor is a genuine wicket-taker, so even if teams play out Rashid, they will still succumb to Noor. Given he is only 19 years old, he will only improve from here on and will be a long-term investment for the Titans.
