Three shock retentions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

We note down three SRH players who might earn a shock retention ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were the second-best team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, coming second to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. They played an aggressive brand of cricket and revolutionised batting with an unrestrained attack from the first ball.

They had a solid team, laced with match-winners from the top to bottom. Hence, they will find it hard to pin down their retentions ahead of the deadline and might have to make a few harsh calls.

However, they might also make a few surprising decisions and retain a few who are set to get released ahead of the auction. We note down three such players who might earn a shock retention ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen might not have performed according to the expectations, but SRH can look to retain him for multiple reasons. He is a genuine all-rounder with massive potential, and his main value lies in his bowling, where he bowls with the new ball and can generate movement and also has the tools to be a successful death-over bowler.

Further, he is more than capable with the bat and plays according to the situation, and his batting value will only improve from here on. With age on his side, Jansen is a long-term investment who can serve SRH at his peak in the coming years.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The most loyal player of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar looks set to be released by the franchise ahead of the fresh season. However, he is among the finest all-phase bowlers and is a proven performer in the league.

He has shown signs of regression but has been playing in local tournaments to regain his beast self. His vast experience will always be handy, and the team can build the bowling unit around him.

Mayank Markande

It might look like a shocking choice, but SRH have an opportunity to retain Mayank Markande as an uncapped player. His only India outing came in 2019 and falls under the criteria of being an uncapped player.

He has done well in patches in the league and knows the SRH setup well after being there for the last couple of seasons. He can be retained at INR 4 crores, and SRH will have a crafty leg-spinner who can be a long-term investment, given he will improve further from here on.
