Unsold Player in IPL 2025 Auction Smashes Another Record-Breaking Century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

He recently shattered the record for the fastest ever T20 century by an Indian.

A talented Indian batter, after going unsold in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, has given the perfect response by putting up a stellar display with the bat in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and showing the teams what they missed out on.

26-year-old cricketer Urvil Patel, just days after shattering the record for the fastest T20 century ever scored by an Indian, has now slammed another record-breaking ton in the SMAT.

Urvil highlighted that his confidence won’t be hampered by the absence of an IPL contract as he scored a quickfire 115 off just 41 balls and helped Gujarat outclass Uttarakhand by 8 wickets.

With the score of 115, Urvil surpassed his own previous record for the highest individual score by a Gujarat batter in T20s, which stood at 113 runs.

Urvil Patel broke Rishabh Pant’s record

Notably, Urvil was a part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad in the IPL 2023 season but was released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He also failed to secure a spot for the IPL 2025 season after going unsold in the auction.

Prior to his ton against Uttarakhand today, Urvil Patel etched his name in the record books with the fastest T20 century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 28 balls during a SMAT match against Tripura on November 27 in Indore.

In the process, he surpassed the previous Indian record held by wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who scored a century in 32 balls in 2018. Urvil’s explosive innings saw him remain unbeaten on 113 runs off just 35 deliveries, featuring seven fours and 12 sixes, as he powered Gujarat to chase down a target of 156 with 58 balls to spare.

Globally, Urvil’s knock ranks as the second-fastest T20 century, trailing only Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who achieved the feat in 27 balls earlier this year.
