He has plied his trade with top IPL franchises like SRH and MI.
A dynamic India batter, who recent went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, gave a testament to his sheer prowess by slamming a scintillating knock during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
Punjab cricketer Anmolpreet Singh has plied his trade with top IPL franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) and despite falling down the pecking order, he showed what the teams missed out on by not signing him with an explosive batting display.
During a match between Punjab and Hyderabad in SMAT, Anmolpreet slammed a fiery 60 (36) to help his team post a high-scoring total of 196 for 6. The knock from the 26-year-old eventually helped Punjab seal the tie by a close marging of 7 runs.
Anmolpreet Singh is a household name in domestic cricket and was also the fifth highest run-getter in SMAT 2023-24 season. However, in IPL, he failed to make an impact in the two chances he got previous season.
Also, with the impact player rule reducing the importance of all-rounders in IPL, the batting all-rounder failed to fecth himself a contract this time round.
A player might remain unsold at an IPL auction due to various factors. Teams may be cautious if the player has shown inconsistent performance in domestic cricket or during past IPL seasons. Concerns about injuries or a track record of frequent fitness issues can also deter franchises. Furthermore, if teams already have ample players for a specific role, the demand for that player may naturally decline.
But it isn’t all over for the unsold players and Anmolpreet’s knock will thus only help his cause as he can be called upon as a replacement player by one of the franchises in case another player gets injured or pulls out of IPL 2025 season.
