Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the Youngest To Get a Bid at the IPL 2025 Auction, Really 13 Years Old?

Old video goes viral of Suryavanshi revealing his true age.

13-year-old Bihar cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi entered the recordbooks during Day 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction in Jeddah. Not only did he become the youngest ever cricketer to be picked at an IPL auction, he also went on to become a Crorepati after Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured the youngster for INR 1.1 crore.

However, soon after the deal was done, a snippet of a video started going viral on social media where Suryavanshi revealed his age while speaking in an interview. Interestingly, in the video, which was recorded in 2023, Suryavanshi said that he would turn 14 years old on September 27 last year, which would technically mean that he is presently 15 years old and not 13. On ESPNCricinfo, his birth month is mentioned as March, which gives way to further speculations.

The situation has now raised a lot of eyebrows amongst fans on social media and it remains to be seen if any official action is taken or not.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has shown tremendous promise in a short time

Suryavanshi’s remarkable rise in cricket has been a topic of discussion ever since he made his First-Class debut for Bihar in January 2024. His performances have turned heads and established him as a player to watch.

He further strengthened his reputation as a cricketing prodigy during the Youth Tests series against Australia U19, held in September and October. In the first match of the series, he delivered a sensational century, a performance that not only showcased his immense talent but also highlighted his readiness to excel on bigger and more competitive stages.

The young batting sensation will next be seen in India’s squad for the U19 Asia Cup, slated to begin later this month. India is slated to begin their campaign in the continental tournament in a high-profile encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan on November 30. The other two teams in India’s group are Japan and UAE.
