With the shortest format being a batter-dominated game, it becomes equally important if not more to build a strong bowling battery that can counter the big-hitting.
The recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction gave all 10 franchises a fantastic opportunity to bolster their attack as they gear up for another season of high-octane action.
While the shortest-format is mostly a batter-dominated game, it becomes equally important if not more to build a strong bowling battery that can counter the big-hitting.
Echoing on the same lines, former India cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra identified the team who managed to rope in the best bowlers in the business and curated a lethal bowling attack after the IPL 2025 auction. Chopra labelled Delhi Capitals (DC) as the franchise with one of the best bowling lineups and hailed their death bowling as one of their biggest strengths.
Speaking in a video on his Youtube channel, Chopra said, “They (DC) have probably assembled the best bowling of this tournament. You will find Gujarat’s bowling very good. If you leave aside one spinner, Mumbai has one of the best bowling attacks. So let’s settle on the fact that they (DC) have the best death-bowling attack.”
DC retained two bowlers (spinners) — Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav before heading into the auction in Jeddah. However, they strengthened their pace department with some quality signings in Mitchell Starc, T Natarajan, Mohit Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Darshan Nalkande, and Dushmantha Chameera.
Starc (INR 11.75 crores) was the Delhi Capitals’ most expensive bowling pick at the auction. While they spent INR 10.75 crores for Natarajan, they bought Mukesh and Mohit for INR 8 crores and INR 2.2 crores, respectively.

Chopra also pointed out that Natarajan and Mukesh have impressive numbers at the death overs, ranking amongst the lowest economies.
