Who will CSK use the RTM on at the IPL 2025 auction?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained five capped players before the auction and focused on getting the best performers back from the previous cycle.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the joint-most successful IPL team, made interesting retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. They had a well-rounded side in the previous cycle and won a title in 2023, their fifth in the league.

The biggest highlight was retaining MS Dhoni as an uncapped player at just INR 4 crores. Apart from them, CSK retained four capped players, which doesn’t come as a surprise, even though they have left out a few quality options due to the auction dynamics.

How many RTMs does Chennai Super Kings have?

Chennai Super Kings have retained as many as five players ahead of the auction. According to the rule, a team can retain up to six players, with one of them necessary to be uncapped.

CSK already have one uncapped retention in Dhoni. So, they will have the option to use RTM on one capped or uncapped player during the auction.

CSK have kept their options open for RTM unlike a few other teams since the auction dynamics are fickle. They can be flexible with their choices during the auction and pick one according to their needs.

Who will CSK use the RTM on at the IPL 2025 auction?

CSK have three main players – Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Tushar Deshpande. Conway is among the most skilled overseas players vs spin and formed a solid opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

He can bat at different gears and provides another dimension to the batting unit by being an LHB. He is everything a team needs at the top.

Meanwhile, Rachin is a player with massive potential who can handle pace and spin well and is a natural stroke-maker. He will only improve from here on and can also be flexible with his batting position while also providing some bowling value.

Tushar Deshpande has been a genuine wicket-taker for CSK in the last two seasons. While his best value comes with the new ball in the powerplay, he can also operate effectively in other phases and has improved massively.

CSK would have definitely retained him had he been uncapped, but they can still use RTM on him. Indian pacers are always in demand and form the most crucial part of an IPL team, and his methods have been mighty successful on Chennai tracks.
