Who will Sunrisers Hyderabad use the RTM on at the IPL 2025 auction?

Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained five capped players, concentrated on keeping their star talents, and aim to build a strong team around these retained members.

Following their runner-up finish last season, SRH have put together a core group aimed at making a strong push for the title again. They have retained five players, including three international stars and two emerging Indian talents.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Current Retentions

Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained five capped players, concentrated on keeping their star talents, and aim to build a strong team around these retained members.

They also have one RTM card, which they can use to retain any player they choose, but it can only be applied to an uncapped player since they have already retained all five of their capped players.

Their retentions are as follows:

  1. Heinrich Klassen – INR 23 crores
  2. Pat Cummins – INR 18 crores
  3. Travis Head – INR 14 crores
  4. Abhishek Sharma – INR 14 crores
  5. Nitish Kumar Reddy – INR 6 crores

Why can’t Sunrisers Hyderabad use RTM on capped retentions?

Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained five capped players, which is the maximum allowed under the rules, as no team can retain more than five capped players. While the total number of allowed retentions is six, the sixth player must be uncapped.

Since SRH has already filled their five capped slots, they cannot retain any additional capped players. However, they do have one RTM available to use on one of their uncapped players.

Who will Sunrisers Hyderabad use the RTM on at the IPL 2025 auction?

SRH have limited options among uncapped players, but they can choose to use their RTM on either Abdul Samad or Mayank Markande.

Abdul Samad, known for his big-hitting ability, has been with SRH since 2020, solely representing them throughout his IPL career. In his 50 matches, he’s scored 577 runs, showing flashes of his potential, especially last season. Although SRH released him, they may still consider using their RTM to bring him back. His current good form in the Ranji Trophy could also boost his confidence, making him an even more promising choice.

Mayank Markande joined SRH in 2023 and has since played 17 matches across two seasons, taking 20 wickets. Although his economy rate was high last season due to a dip in form, Markande has the skill to bowl effectively in the middle overs and pose a consistent wicket-taking threat. His strong performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy might make SRH consider using their RTM to bring him back.
