‘You’re sure you don’t want to captain one more season?’ – Devon Conway to MS Dhoni after stepping down as CSK skipper

Only a couple of days before the start of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni surprised many by stepping down as CSK skipper, handing the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. It was something even his CSK teammates weren’t expecting as well. A lot of current cricketers dream to play under Dhoni and New Zealand batter Devon Conway was one of them.

He was bought by CSK at his base price of INR 1 crore and Conway was certainly looking forward to contributing to the franchise under MS Dhoni’s tutelage. But it wasn’t to be as the veteran decided that the time had come for him to move on as far as the leadership is concerned.

Conway has now shared his thoughts on Dhoni and also revealed the conversation with him after he stepped down. He also stated that he asked the 40-year-old if he really doesn’t want to lead CSK for one more season.

I was wanting to play under the great MS as captain. I had a nice little conversation with him. I said, ‘you’re sure you don’t want to captain one more season so I can play under you as captain?’ But he said, ‘no, but I am always going to be around anyways. It was really cool’,” Conway said in a video shared on CSK’s social media handles.

Devon Conway also spoke highly of CSK’s current skipper Ravindra Jadeja. He had a chance to have lunch with the latter and Dhoni and termed them the legends of Indian cricket.

It was really cool just to get to know them better. They are just normal men, normal grown guys, just down to earth. No aura about them, easy to get along with and easy to talk to. So it’s been really good to interact with those two legends of Indian cricket,” Conway added.
