IPL 2021 Schedule for UAE-leg Announced; First match on September 19 between CSK and MI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season on Sunday. Suspended earlier this year due to a cluster of COVID-19 positive cases inside different teams’ bubbles in India, the IPL 2021 will resume on September 19 in Dubai.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), two of the most successful teams in the league’s history, will renew their rivalry to kick off the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.

Dubai will host a further 12 of the 31 remaining matches in the tournament. Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will play host to 8 and 10 matches, respectively, as per the schedule announced by the BCCI and IPL governing council. Sharjah, the most high-scoring of the three venues, will host teams for two games each.

Fans will get to witness as many as seven double-headers in IPL 2021, with the first of those starting September 25. The afternoon matches will begin at 3:30 PM while the evening matches are set to begin at 7:30 PM IST.

IPL 2021 UAE leg: Dates and Venues

The IPL 2021 fixtures are divided as such that all eight teams will get to play at least one afternoon game. Defending champions MI will play two matches in the afternoon, as would CSK, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (2). Delhi Capitals (DC) will take the field for three such games in the competition.

All teams barring DC and PBKS, who had played eight of their 14 matches in India, have half of their matches remaining for the UAE leg. The league stage will come to a conclusion on October 8. The playoffs start two days later in Dubai with the first qualifier on October 10. Sharjah will host the eliminator and the second qualifier on October 11 and October 13, respectively. The tournament will return to Dubai one final time and have the title holders decided on October 15.
