44 off last 21 balls: Watch Sanju Samson changing gears during his knock of 82

One of the most talked-about cricketers in the Indian Premier League, Sanju Samson and his tryst with inconsistency always has shadowed the brilliant ability he owns. However, that wasn’t the case over the course of this season, as Samson adds another brilliant inning to his tally this season. Despite the Sunrisers Hyderabad ravaging through in a one-sided run-chase, the RR skipper’s 82-run knock remained a major talking point.

Samson walked in early after Evin Lewis was caught at long-leg in the second over. The responsibility to be the anchor of this innings, once again, was on his shoulders and he did so quite wonderfully. He took his time to get in but kept hitting the odd boundary. His trait to take on the bowler can never be taken away, but he did curb it to ensure he remained until the end.

He played some delightful shots in the gap to find boundaries and his first six came off the 37th ball, over covers. A splendid pick-up shot over covers got his fifty, and he managed to up the ante just the way he’s known to do post then. He accumulated 20 runs off Siddarth Kaul’s 16th over, which included some trademark shots of his, including sixes down the ground and over midwicket.

He managed to get a few more boundaries against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jason Holder to get to 82, before Siddarth Kaul got rid of him in the final over. Sunrisers managed to pull things back in the death, conceding just 18 runs in the final three overs. But Samson’s innings was a treat to watch and is worthy of looking at once again.

Sanju Samson change in approach sparks debates

Samson looks more composed and keen to work his way up to a big inning, but his knock sparked many debates on social media. While plenty of people loved this changed version of the cricketer, some people also have suggested that the free-flowing Samson is more dangerous than the batter we saw today. However, he managed to work his way to get hold of the Orange Cap right now, and is 8 runs short of his previous best tally in IPL (441 in 2018).
