13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Reveals His Idol: It’s Not Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Even MS Dhoni

In addition to his IPL success, Suryavanshi is currently a part of the India U-19 squad for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE.

Thirteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi recently made history by becoming the youngest player to secure an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract. Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him for 1.1 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

This achievement has put him in the spotlight, but the young cricketer remains focused on his growth rather than the attention. Despite his success, he is committed to improving his skills and not letting the media attention distract him.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Looks Up to Brian Lara as His Cricket Idol

In a pre-match interview on Sony Sports Network, Suryavanshi revealed that one of his biggest idols is West Indies cricketing legend Brian Lara. He shared that he looks up to Lara’s style of play and admires his exceptional batting technique.

However, while Lara’s influence inspires him, Suryavanshi emphasizes the importance of staying true to his own game. He believes that focusing on his natural style is the key to his development as a cricketer.

“Brian Lara is my idol. I try to play like him. Other than that, I try to keep it natural with whatever skills I have and I want to work on that.”

In addition to his IPL success, Suryavanshi is currently a part of the India U-19 squad for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE.

He has expressed his commitment to focusing on the present and performing well in the Asia Cup rather than being overwhelmed by the pressure of the spotlight. He has adopted a mature approach, taking things one game at a time as he navigates the challenges of international youth cricket.

“I’m currently focused on my game. I’m not bothered by what’s happening around me. I want to concentrate on the Asia Cup first and then take it game by game,” Vaibhav added.

In the ACC U-19 Asia Cup match between India U-19 and Pakistan U-19, Vaibhav Suryavanshi managed to score only 1 run from 9 balls, as India U-19 lost to Pakistan U-19 by 43 runs.

As a passionate cricket fan I have been watching the game for over 20 years, and it has been a constant part of my life for as long as I can remember. From childhood, I enjoyed following matches and players, and over time that passion only grew stronger. What began as admiration for the sport slowly turned into a deeper connection, where I found joy in expressing my thoughts through writing. For me, writing about cricket feels natural. It doesn’t feel like work, but rather a reflection of the love I have for the game that has always been close to my heart.
