‘Not sure about his playing style’ – Former India opener criticises India’s Test batter, questions his technique

He also opined that the India batter will not be a preferred choice in Australian conditions for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.

The Indian team recently faced one of their worst defeats as New Zealand whitewashed the Men in Blue 3-0 in the recent Test series. It marked India’s first Test series loss in 12 years and a first-ever series whitewash at home (3 or more Tests).

While the bowlers did their jobs, the star-studded Indian batting lineup failed to deliver the goods. Now, with the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) scheduled next, former India cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra has identified an Indian batter who might not get a game in the marquee series against the Aussies.

Dynamic right-hander Sarfaraz Khan impressed in the first Test against the Kiwis where he managed to score a deft knock of 150 but soon disappointed with his dismissals in the five other innings managing scores of 0, 11, 9, 0,1. Following his 150, Sarfarz was preferred over KL Rahul for the last two Tests but he failed to justify his selection.

Aakash Chopra criticises Sarfaraz Khan’s batting technique

Echoing on the same lines, Chopra further questioned Sarfaraz’s playing style and noted that he won’t be fed spin bowling and won’t be able to score runs in his preferred areas against the seamers in Australian conditions.

Instead, Aakash Chopra named two more players who he would choose ahead of the Mumbai star.

Speaking in a video on his Youtube channel, Chopra said,

“If you tell me that you have to play one of Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, assuming one of them can play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, I might still be tempted to go with Dhruv Jurel. My simple reason for that is I am not 100% certain about Sarfaraz’s playing style,” Chopra added.

The much-anticipated BGT is slated to start from November 22, in Perth.
