AB de Villiers was definitely in line to make a return to International Cricket: Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock, South Africa’s skipper in T20I Cricket, confirmed that AB de Villiers was going to make a comeback in International Cricket via the T20 World Cup in Australia, which has been postponed to 2021.

In an interaction on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, de Kock said, “He was definitely in line. If fit, I would have loved to have AB de Villiers. I think any team would have loved to have him in their team. While we were pushing for him, now we will have to see when the T20 World Cup is going to happen now.”

Last year, in the month of December, Faf du Plessis, the then captain of South Africa, and coach Mark Boucher  had said that they were having conversations to try and bring de Villiers back to the South African T20 squad.

While playing for the Brisbane Heat in last year’s Big Bash League, de Villiers himself had shown interest in returning to the squad for the T20 World Cup. After making his debut in the league, he told reporters, “There’s a lot that needs to happen before that becomes reality, I would love to. I’ve been talking to Bouch, Graeme Smith and Faf back home. We are all keen to make it happen, it’s a long way away still and plenty can happen, there’s the IPL coming, I’ve still got to be in form at that time. I’m thinking of throwing my name in the hat and hoping everything will work out.”

De Villiers was last seen in action in the Solidarity Cup, Cricket South Africa’s experimental 3 Team Cricket format last week. He captained the Eagles to a gold medal, smashing an entertaining 24 ball 61 in the process.
