She scored 140 runs in seven matches, including a top score of 64, and excelled with the ball, claiming 16 wickets with best figures of 4/17.

Melbourne Renegades Women secured the WBBL 2024 title with a dramatic 7-run (DLS) victory over Brisbane Heat Women at the MCG, Melbourne.

The Renegades posted 141/9 in the final, powered by Hayley Matthews’ brilliant 69 off 61 balls. Rain disrupted the match, reducing Brisbane Heat’s target to 98 runs in 12 overs.

Despite a spirited chase, Brisbane Heat Women fell short by 7 runs, with Jess Jonassen’s valiant effort with 44 off 28 balls. Her innings kept Brisbane in contention, but the Renegades ultimately clinched a memorable triumph. Hayley Matthews, who also took two wickets, was named Player of the Match for her exceptional all-round performance.

Sophie Molineux: A Champion for Both Renegades and RCB Women

Sophie Molineux, the skipper, though not impactful in the final, was crucial to the Renegades’ successful campaign. She scored 140 runs in seven matches, including a top score of 64, and excelled with the ball, claiming 16 wickets with best figures of 4/17. Her all-round contributions were instrumental in the team’s journey to the championship.

Earlier this year, Molineux also played a significant role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women’s championship-winning run. In 10 matches, she claimed 12 wickets, with best figures of 3/20, finishing as the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

Additionally, she contributed 78 runs with the bat. Her performances, particularly with the ball, were pivotal to RCB Women’s success.

Molineux’s consistent all-round impact across tournaments has established her as a key player in shaping title-winning campaigns, both for the Renegades and RCB Women, underlining her value as a dependable performer on the biggest stages.
