‘The kind of heists’: Ashwin gives his verdict on Babar Azam vs Virat Kohli debate

Ashwin made the revelation in a video on his YouTube channel.

The news of Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam getting dropped from the team recently created quite a stir. Notably, Babar had been struggling with his form and the Pakistan management decided to sideline the right-hander for the ongoing second Test against England.

The decision has now also drawn parallels with former India skipper Virat Kohli and how he was given adequate time to get his touch back despite going through a rough patch.

Echoing on the same lines, veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin gave his two cents on the Babar Azam vs Virat Kohli debate in a new video on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin said, “I feel we should end this debate. Babar Azam and Virat Kohli shouldn’t be in the same line. I am really sorry, I rate Babar Azam. He is an outstanding player, but Virat Kohli’s credentials are something else. Across terrains, across times, across pressure situations, the kind of heists he has done, no one has come close to doing so in the world of cricket. As far as I know, at this point, if any one comes close, it is Joe Root in Test cricket.”

Ashwin will hope to continue his form from the Bangladesh Test series against New Zealand

Speaking of Ravichandran Ashwin, he enjoyed a great time and was in stellar form in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Ashwin was even awarded the Player of the Series for his heroics.

Across two games, the dynamic right-hander scored 114 runs, which included a stunning century in the first Test at his home ground (Chepauk). He also picked up 11 wickets, the joint-most for a bowler from both teams.

Ashwin has now been selected for Team India’s upcoming three-match Test series against the Kiwis, which begins on October 16 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru.
