Australia A squad for the two-match series against India A announced

The two-match series between Australia A and India A will start on October 31 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay.

Australia A squad for the two-match series later in the year is out, with several quality players named. A few players will audition for a spot in the Border Gavaskar Trophy right after this rubber.

Among them is a promising opener Sam Konstas, who scored twin centuries during the opening round of the Sheffield Shield, becoming the first after Ricky Ponting to achieve this feat. Nathan McSweeney, whose recent rise has been prominent, will lead the 17-man squad for the series.

McSweeney recently scored 55 & 127* for South Australia during the Sheffield Shield fixture against New South Wales in Sydney. In the same game, Konstas scored twin centuries for New South Wales, and the duo have been awarded for their superior consistency with a place in the Australia A side.

Among other notable names are Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris, former Australia openers, who are not part of the plans. Jimmy Peirson, Cooper Connolly, the 21-year-old allrounder, who is also part of the ODI series against Pakistan, and Josh Philippe have also been included in the team.

Todd Murphy, Scott Boland among the main bowlers in the squad

Todd Murphy, who was impressive during the Border Gavaskar Trophy in India last year, is among the main spinners in the side. Meanwhile, Scott Boland, whose start as a Test cricketer has been as bright as possible, will also be part of the team.

Boland is also expected to be a member of Australia’s side for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Michael Neser, another consistent performer across the domestic tournaments of Australia, will also be part of the squad and will contest for a spot in the Australia squad, so his performances will be closely monitored.

“We are really excited by this squad, particularly after some of the tremendous performances to start the Sheffield Shield season. As always with Australia A selection we have picked a side we hope can present performances which are compelling for the upcoming Test summer, whilst also rewarding players for strong domestic form in roles we see as being important further afield,” exclaimed George Bailey, the national selector of Australia.

The two-match series between Australia A and India A will start on October 31 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. The final game will take place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 7.
