Bangladesh Name New Captain for ODI Series Against West Indies

He will lead the Bangladesh ODI team for the first time.

In a recent development coming in, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a new skipper for their upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The teams are currently locking horns in a 2-match Test series, which the Windies are leading 1-0.

Allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has now been bestowed with the captaincy reins of the ODI team after taking over the leadership duties in the ongoing Test series. Miraz will be leading the Bangladesh ODI team for the first time as he steps in for Najmul Hossain Shanto, who still remains sidelined due to a groin injury.

Left-handed batter Afif Hossain Dhrubo has also earned a recall to the ODI squad after a year-long absence, having last represented Bangladesh in December 2023. Meanwhile, fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was part of the ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE last month, has been omitted. Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who impressed during his debut ODI against Afghanistan, retains his spot in the squad.

Notably, all the ODI matches will be held in St Kitts with the series slated to start on 8 December.

Towhid Hridoy ruled out of West Indies ODI leg

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy, has been ruled out by the BCB medical team due to ongoing groin problems.

Speaking about the development, BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury said,

“Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play.”
