CSK Trump Card Moves into Top five of ICC T20I Men’s Bowling Rankings

The Sri Lankan spinner has bounced back to regain a position in the top five of ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings.

Talented Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana has risen five places to claim the fifth spot in the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings for bowlers.

Theekshana, who has been part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2022, faced a challenging period on the international stage, resulting in a drop to 10th place in the ICC T20I rankings as of October 7.

However, Theekshana made a remarkable comeback following a strong performance in the T20I series against the West Indies, which took place in Sri Lanka. This impressive display propelled him back up to 5th place in the rankings.

Since his debut, Theekshana has played 54 T20Is, claiming 52 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.77. His best bowling figures stand at 3 for 17, highlighting his effectiveness as a key bowler for his team. Theekshana’s ability to deliver consistent performances has made him an essential asset for Sri Lanka, especially in the T20I format.

As of now, Adil Rashid maintains his position as the number one bowler in the ICC T20I Bowling rankings, firmly cementing his status among the elite. Following Rashid are Akeal Hosein in second place and Rashid Khan in third, while Gudakesh Motie rounds out the top four.

Theekshana’s impressive rise to 5th place means that all five bowlers in the top rankings are spinners, showing the increasing dominance of spin bowling in T20 cricket. Meanwhile, Theekshana’s fellow countryman, Wanindu Hasaranga, who was previously ranked 5th, has unfortunately dropped to 7th place.

With the IPL retention and auction approaching, Theekshana is eager to show his skills and further enhance his reputation. CSK will be closely monitoring his performance, as they might consider retaining him for the upcoming season.
