LSG star notches up a magnificent ton under pressure in Ranji Trophy

A Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder has compiled a marvellous ton on the second day of the fresh Ranji Trophy season.

A Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder has compiled a marvellous ton on the second day of the fresh Ranji Trophy season. The player batted beautifully and has almost been a lone warrior in the innings so far.

Deepak Hooda, the batter from Rajasthan, scored an unbeaten 105 runs in 171 balls, including 12 boundaries. He came to bat at No.4 and held innings tight, even though the wickets kept falling from the other end.

Several batters got starts, but none could translate them into big scores, with the next best being 33 from the opener Yash Kothari. Deepak tried building partnerships with several batters, but the other batter lost his wicket just before the stand became big, and the innings never picked up.

However, Deepak provided stability from his end and ensured Rajasthan didn’t fall too behind the first-innings total of Puducherry. He will look to continue his innings and weave crucial partnerships with the lower-order batters to take Rajasthan’s score ahead of Puducherry and provide them with a vital first-innings lead in the game.

Rajasthan trail by 14 runs by the end of the second day

After winning the toss, Rajasthan opted to field first and bowled brilliantly to bundle Puducherry on a mere 248 in 85 overs. As many as four bowlers – Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Aniket Choudhary, and Manav Suthar – snared two wickets each, while Rahul Chahar got a solitary wicket.

Ajay Rohera top-scored 94 runs for Puducherry, whereas Fabid Ahmed (49) and Anand Bais (41) also got starts but couldn’t convert them into a big one. Later, Rajasthan didn’t start well, losing Abhijeet Tomar in the fifth over.

There were several starts from the Rajasthan batters, but only Deepak Hooda converted it into a big one, notching up a brilliant century under pressure. So far, he has scored 44.87% of the team’s runs alone, which meant Rajasthan went near the first-innings score of Puducherry.

Rajasthan would want Hooda to carry on and bat deep to ensure Rajasthan get ahead of Puducherry’s score. Meanwhile, Puducherry would want to take the remaining four wickets as soon as possible.
