Cricket players often take up government jobs as a backup source of income to rely on, especially once they are done playing cricket. Given the vast number of cricketers plying their trade in India, it’s no secret that not everybody gets to enjoy a lengthy international career or land lucrative IPL contracts.
Top players like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar amongst others have held government posts outside of cricket and recently, another India star joined the list.
Former fast bowler Siddarth Kaul, who has represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL, has gone back to office following his retirement.
The Punjab pacer recently announced retirement earlier on November 28 and has since returned to the State Bank of India in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 branch.
Kaul has been with the State Bank of India (SBI) since 2017, prior to his debut with Team India, and was promoted in 2020. With his cricket career now less active, he has more time to focus on his role at the bank.
As a SBI employee, Kaul has also played for their cricket team.
At 34, Kaul remains open to the idea of playing international cricket, believing he still has 2-3 years left in his career. However, the former India pacer is satisfied with everything he has accomplished.
Kaul isn’t entirely giving up on cricket yet as he told ESPNcricinfo,
“I feel I still have 3-4 years of cricket left in me, but I wanted to go out on a high, when I was at peak fitness and performing well rather than being asked to go due to fitness or non-performance at some other point.”
