Fresh update emerges on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the Perth Test

Sports Tak revealed that Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, conducted a meeting in Mumbai, attended by the chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Rohit Sharma, Indian captain, and Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the team.

There has been so much uncertainty around Rohit Sharma’s availability for the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, a fresh update has emerged ahead of the Perth Test, which must have come as a relief for Indian fans.

According to Sports Tak, Rohit is expected to travel to Australia with other members of the Indian team before the tour. The members of the Indian team will depart in two batches, first on Sunday (November 10) and the second on Monday (November 11).

Rohit will depart for the tour with the second batch on Monday. The Indian captain has conveyed it to the relevant authorities that he is available to travel with other members, even though there’s no certainty whether he will feature in the first Test in Perth.

Sports Tak also added that Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, conducted a meeting in Mumbai, attended by the chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, and Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the team. The agenda of the meeting was India’s shocking whitewash against New Zealand at home, their first series defeat since 2012 at home.

New Zealand series defeat played a role in Rohit’s decision

The same source added that a shocking series defeat against New Zealand must have played a role in Rohit deciding to travel with the team. There is a big gap between the first and second Test against Australia, so if possible, Rohit might feature in the first Test and return to India during the gap before flying to Australia again.

However, there’s no certainty around that as of now. But it seems clear that Rohit understands the situation and is willing to remain with the team as much as possible after their embarrassing defeat against New Zealand.

India are in precarious situation regarding their position in the World Test Championship (WTC). The series defeat against New Zealand means they need to win at least four games against Australia to qualify for the final without depending on other results.

Hence, Rohit’s presence at the top will be important in the impending big series. There will be more developments on this situation in the coming days.
