The incident had deeply affected Maxwell.
In a recent revelation, Australian star Glenn Maxwell has opened up in his new book about the torrid treatment of a former India legend during their time at the Punjab franchise.
The dynamic Aussie all-rounder, in his book titled ‘The Showman’, recounted his time at the Punjab Kings franchise (then Kings XI Punjab) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and how his relationship turned sour with Virender Sehwag, who was the mentor of the side at that time.
Maxwell, who was bestowed the captaincy reins for the Punjab-based franchise in 2017, couldn’t guide the team into the playoffs, finishing fifth in the points table.
In the book, Maxwell opened up on the challenges he faced during the season with the biggest being Sehwag influencing team decisions and having the final say with the playing XI.
Not only that, Sehwag would also not comply with others and took decisions that ‘didn’t necessarily make sense.’

However, after the final league game was done, Maxwell volunteered the do the press conference.
To his surprise, Sehwag attended the conference and labelled Maxwell as a ‘big disappointment’. Maxwell was even removed from the main WhatsApp group of the team.
The incident affected Maxwell deeply and he even texted Sehwag regarding the same.
Narrating in his book, Maxwell wrote, “I texted him to say how much it hurt to read those comments and added that he had lost a fan in me for the way he had conducted himself. Sehwag’s response was simple: “Don’t need fan like you.” We never spoke again.”
Speaking about Maxwell’s current situation, he is unlikely to be retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the IPL 2025 auction after having an underwhelming last season for the franchise, returning with just 129 runs in 10 matches.
