Haris Rauf doesn’t rule out Test comeback after ripping through Australia in back-to-back games

Rauf was almost unplayable at times, claiming five Australian wickets in his eight-over spell.

Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf delivered a stellar performance, taking a five-wicket haul in the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

The 31-year-old pacer, who made his return to the national team for the Australia tour, had taken three wickets in the series opener, which Pakistan lost by 2 wickets while defending 203 in Melbourne on Monday.

In the second ODI on Friday, Rauf was almost unplayable at times, claiming five Australian wickets in his eight-over spell. He dismissed Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell, and Pat Cummins, delivering a standout performance.

After making a comeback in ODIs after nearly a year, Haris Rauf, who has only played one Test match in his career (in 2022), took a remarkable five-wicket haul in the second ODI. In a post-innings interview, Michael Vaughan asked him about the possibility of returning to Test cricket in the future.

Haris mentioned that playing four-day cricket in Pakistan helps his body adjust, so he would consider playing Test cricket for Pakistan again.

Michael Vaughan asked, “Will we see you playing Test cricket in the future?”

“When we’re playing 4-day cricket in Pakistan, then my body gets used to 4-day and Test cricket, so why not in the future I play Test cricket for Pakistan as well,” Haris answered.

Opening Pair Sets Up Easy Chase for Pakistan

Talking about the match, after Haris Rauf’s five-wicket haul, Australia were bowled out for just 163, with Shaheen Afridi also contributing with 3 wickets. In their chase, Pakistan got off to a strong start as their openers built a century partnership.

At the time of writing this report, Pakistan are 140-1 after 22 overs, with Abdullah Shafique on 41* and Saim Ayub having been dismissed for 82. Pakistan now need just 24 more runs to win.
