‘Who should be blamed?’: India under Gambhir faces heat after historic streak of 4331 days unbeaten gets shattered

Under Gautam Gambhir, India has scripted a few unwanted records.

The Indian team suffered a historic defeat earlier today after going down in the IND vs NZ 2nd Test and eventually losing the three-match contest.

After a shambolic batting display and a disappointing defeat in the opening Bengaluru Test, Rohit Sharma and Co failed to turn their fortunes around as the Kiwis wrapped up the second Test in Pune by 113 runs and in the process scripted history.

With the win, the Blackcaps ended India’s World Record of going unbeaten in the longest format at home for a staggering 4331 days. India had won 18 series in a row. No team besides Australia has managed to secure over 10 consecutive Test series wins at home, a milestone the Aussies reached on two occasions (from 1994 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2008).

This is the first loss for the Men in Blue on home soil in 12 years, with the last defeat coming as far back as 2012 when England defeated the MS Dhoni-led side 2-1 in a four-match Test series.

Additionally, this marks the first occasion in history that New Zealand has defeated India in a Test series on Indian soil.

While it was a difficult loss to process, the Indian cricket team fans took to social media to vent their disappointment and frustration.

Check some of the reactions below.

Gautam Gambhir’s regime has scripted a few unwanted records

While Gautam Gambhir has shown that the brand of cricket India will play under his regime is going to be fearless and bold, in this case against the Kiwis it has definitely backfired.

India managed to overpower Bangladesh prior to the New Zealand series by playing ultra-aggressive cricket but the recent loss against the Kiwis definitely shows that there is work to be done.

In his short stint, Gautam Gambhir has also managed to get a few unwanted records where India lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka after 27 years. It was also a first home Test loss against New Zealand in 36 years and a first home Test series defeat after 12 years.
