Indian Batter Breaks Rishabh Pant’s Record After IPL 2025 Auction Snub; Smashes Fastest T20 Hundred by an Indian

Urvil's 28-ball century also makes him the second-fastest T20 centurion in history.

Urvil Patel, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, made history by scoring the fastest T20 century ever by an Indian. On November 27, 2024, he achieved this remarkable feat in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Tripura, scoring a century off just 28 balls.

The Indian batter, Urvil, was part of the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2023 season but was released before the IPL 2024 auction. After being released by GT, he failed to secure a spot in the IPL 2025 season and went unsold in the auction.

Urvil Smashes Fastest T20 Hundred by an Indian

On November 27, 2024, during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Tripura, Urvil achieved the remarkable feat, smashing a century off just 28 balls. The match was held at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore.

Before Urvil, the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian was held by Rishabh Pant, who scored a 32-ball century for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in 2018. Urvil’s blistering knock surpassed this, putting his name in the record books.

In the match, Urvil opened the batting alongside Aarya Desai in the second innings. His unbeaten 113 off 35 balls included 7 fours and a stunning 12 sixes, which helped Gujarat chase down a target of 156 runs with 58 balls to spare.

Urvil’s 28-ball century also makes him the second-fastest T20 centurion in the world. The global record is held by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball century against Cyprus earlier this year.

In addition to his T20 achievements, Urvil made a mark in List A cricket as well. In November 2023, he scored the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket, reaching 100 off 41 balls for Gujarat against Arunachal Pradesh. This was only a ball slower than Yusuf Pathan’s record of a 40-ball century for Baroda in 2010.
