IPL 2021: 3 Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Players who can win the Orange Cap | Most Runs in IPL 2021

Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 opener on April 9th in Chennai. RCB, led by Virat Kohli are still searching for their maiden IPL title. They were knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator last season. Bangalore had a strong start to the season and were on course for a finish in the top two, however, their form dipped during the second half of the season.

Devdutt Padikkal was the top scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore last season, scoring 473 runs in his 15 innings. Three players have managed to win the Orange Cap, representing RCB. Chris Gayle won back to back Orange Caps in 2011 and 2012. Virat Kohli managed to score 973 runs in IPL 2016, which still remains the most by any player in a single edition of IPL.

Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap in 2016

Virat Kohli scored 466 runs in the last season at an average of 42.36. However, that is nowhere close to his best performance as the Indian skipper is capable of scoring more runs. Kohli won the Orange Cap in 2016, amassing 973 runs and scoring four centuries in his best season so far. He has managed to cross the 500-run mark only once in the past four seasons, in 2018.

The Indian skipper can open the batting this year alongside Devdutt Padikkal and as a result, he can get more time to settle in. He is one of the top contenders to win the Orange Cap every year, because of his sheer class. Kohli managed to get over his lean patch after playing two spectacular knocks against England in the ongoing T20I series. This is a good sign for RCB who need their captain to fire on all cylinders.

AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers

Although, AB de Villiers finished as the third highest scorer for RCB last season, yet he was one of the most influential batsman for his side. The former South African had to play the role of an anchor and a finisher in most of the matches. He scored 454 runs last season at an average of 45.40. de Villiers had an impressive strike rate of over 158 and smashed 23 sixes during the whole tournament.

The South African is one of the top players who can win the Orange Cap this year. AB de Villiers has never managed to win the Cap, but has always played a crucial role in this RCB side. His best season came in 2016 where he scored 687 runs in 16 innings at an average of 52.84. He has managed to score over 400 runs in all of three past IPL seasons.

Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli can open the innings for RCB this year

Devdutt Padikkal was one of the standout performers for RCB last season. He top-scored for the franchise with 473 runs in his 15 innings at an average of 31.53. The opener was the key in helping his side reach the playoffs last year. However, his strike rate was on the lower side, in the early 120s. He will hope to work on that aspect of his game in the coming season.

Padikkal is another candidate to win the Orange Cap this season. Although, he is not as renowned as Virat Kohli or AB de Villiers, yet the uncapped Indian has made a huge name for himself as he outscored the two superstars in his team last season. The left-hander scored five fifties and struck 51 boundaries during the last season.
