Discarded batter credits India star for helping his mental headspace after Australia tour call-up

His last appearance for India came 11 month ago.

A discarded India batter has recently opened up on how a current India star helped him cope and revived his mental headspace following his call-up for the upcoming Australia tour.

Dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who has been out of India’s pecking order ever since taking a break due to personal reasons, revealed how premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya has provided him with imperative help.

Echoing on the same lines, Ishan told TOI in a chat,

“I am very lucky to have guys like Hardik around me who have spoken to me about it. There are moments in cricket where you feel really down. And it’s not just for me, it’s for every cricketer. But if you find that neutral point, you will get over it. Skills are always there, it’s just your mental thing. How you are dealing with things at that point of time. I have been very lucky to be in a very healthy zone throughout my career.”

Ishan Kishan gets India A call-up

For the 26-year-old Ishan, it’s been eleven months since Ishan Kishan last represented India. His previous appearance came in a T20I against Australia in Guwahati.

Kishan has since been working hard in the domestic circuit, determined to catch the selectors’ attention once more. After taking a personal break during last year’s South Africa tour, he rejuvenated himself during a lengthy training camp in Baroda alongside Mumbai Indians teammate and captain Hardik Pandya and has consistently participated in every game available.

Beginning with the DY Patil T20 tournament, Kishan steadily regained his form, becoming a mainstay in the domestic setup. His participation has spanned multiple competitions, including the IPL, the Buchi Babu multi-day tournament for Jharkhand, the Duleep Trophy, the Irani Cup, and now the Ranji Trophy. His centuries in the Duleep and Ranji Trophies earned him a place in the India A squad for the Australia tour.

For someone who once regularly saw his name on India’s squad lists, this India A selection has been a meaningful milestone and he will be eager to make the opportunity count in a bid to return to the senior national team.
