Former India player lashes out at MS Dhoni; says that he crushed his confidence

Manoj Tiwary played 12 ODIs and three T20Is for India

In an interview with Cricket Addictor, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary revisited old grievances from his time playing under MS Dhoni and criticized the former captain.

Manoj Tiwary is still upset about being dropped from the team shortly after scoring a century in 2011. The cricketer from West Bengal has discussed this controversial issue openly before and has brought it up again. At that time, MS Dhoni was the captain, and Tiwary’s frustration is clearly directed at him, even though he doesn’t mention him by name.

Tiwary admitted that being dropped from the team, despite performing well with the bat, really hurt his confidence and affected his mindset.

“See, it happened a long time ago. It’s a matter of the past, but yes, dukh to hota hi hai (It was sad). I would lie if I said it wasn’t saddening. What can we do? It’s life; but it needs to move forward. If I am to write my autobiography or I do a podcast of my own, I will reveal it all. But it wasn’t easy. When a player is at his peak, when his confidence is crushed, it causes a change in mindset,” Tiwary told Cricket Addictor in a chat.

Earlier this year, Manoj Tiwary mentioned that he would like to ask Dhoni why he was left out of the Indian team’s playing XI after scoring a century against West Indies. He also expressed that if he had been given more opportunities, he could have become a player like Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli.

He played 12 ODIs in which he scored 287 runs which includes 1 century and 1 half century and also played three T20Is for India.

Manoj, who had a domestic career in Bengal, retired from domestic cricket earlier this year. He played 148 first-class matches, scoring 10,195 runs, which included 30 centuries and 45 half-centuries.

Reunited with former team mates in the Legends League Cricket

Tiwary recently participated in the Legends League Cricket, where he played for the Manipal Tigers alongside his former Indian teammates Robin Uthappa, Harbhajan Singh, and Pragyan Ojha. Even though his team didn’t make it to the playoffs, Tiwary enjoyed his time in the league.

“Feels great. I have played with most of them at some point on my career. These are legends whom we have seen growing up, so to play with them is a nice feeling. Even some of the players who announced their retirements slightly earlier, I would say, have joined the Legends League, so it’s always a warm feeling to reunite with them and playing,”Tiwary added.

As a passionate cricket fan I have been watching the game for over 20 years, and it has been a constant part of my life for as long as I can remember. From childhood, I enjoyed following matches and players, and over time that passion only grew stronger. What began as admiration for the sport slowly turned into a deeper connection, where I found joy in expressing my thoughts through writing. For me, writing about cricket feels natural. It doesn’t feel like work, but rather a reflection of the love I have for the game that has always been close to my heart.
