Mohammad Hafeez tested negative for COVID-19 after taking 2nd opinion

After being tested positive for COVID-19, Pakistan’s veteran all rounder Mohammad Hafeez took to Twitter to announce that he underwent a second COVID-19 test with his family, and all of them have been tested negative this time.

The all rounder with 6,614 runs and 139 wickets in 218 One Day Internationals wrote on Twitter, “After Tested positive COVID-19 acc to PCB testing Report yesterday, as 2nd opinion & for satisfaction I personally went to Test it again along with my family and here I along with my all family members are reported Negetive Alham du Lillah. May Allah keep us all safe.”

The all rounder, along with 6 other fellow members of the Pakistan Cricket team were tested positive for the virus yesterday. Among the unfortunate victims were experienced fast bowler Wahab Riaz, gloveman Mohammad Rizwan, opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, rookie quicks Imran Khan, Mohammad Hasnain and left arm spinner Kashif Bhatti.

Earlier, 3 more Pakistani Cricketers, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan were infected by the virus. All 10 members are in the 29 man squad to tour England for 3 Test matches and as many T20 Internationals.

Despite claiming a negative test, it’s unlikely that Hafeez will travel to the UK as scheduled on June 28. The PCB has said the players who tested positive for the virus and the ones who will test positive in their next round of testing, scheduled for June 25 in Lahore will be asked to quarantine at home and will be monitored by the PCB medical team.

Despite one third of the squad being tested positive for the virus, Wasim Khan, CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, confirmed that the tour to England is very much on track. He said, “The tour to England is very much on track and the side will depart as per schedule on 28 June. Fortunately, all the first-choice red-ball squad, barring Mohammad Rizwan, are negative, which means they can start training and practicing immediately after they have been tested and given the all-clear when they arrive in England.”

The PCB on Tuesday issued a list of guidelines that they will follow when it comes to planning for the England tour in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which are:

1) The players and player support personnel, who have tested negative, will assemble in a bio-secure environment in Lahore on 24 June and will undergo second round of testing on 25 June.

2) The players and player support personnel, who will test negative on 25 June, will depart for Manchester on a chartered flight. Within 24 after hours after arriving in the UK, they will be tested by the ECB medical panel.

3) The players and player support personnel, who will test negative upon arrival in the UK, will observe a quarantine period as per the UK government’s regulations, but will be allowed to train and practice in a bio-secure facility.

4) The players and player support personnel, who have tested positive in pre-departure testing, will observe self-isolation in their homes and remain under strict monitoring of the PCB medical panel.
