India’s new Test call-up Nitish Reddy says that he idolises these two global all-rounders, but won’t look to play like them

On the merit of his exemplary display, Reddy has now been picked in the squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Sensational young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has enjoyed a stellar year where he had a breakout Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) campaign followed by his India debut in the Bangladesh T20I series.

On the merit of his exemplary display, Reddy has now been picked in the squad for the upcoming high-octane Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), slated to be played in November-December.

As Reddy gears up for the challenge in Down Under, the 21-year-old gave a peek into his gameplan and mindset for the marquee series.

Reddy wants to adapt to the situation if he gets a chance to feature in the playing XI during the five-Test series, beginning in Perth on November 22.

Nitish Kumar Reddy opens up on his mindset for BGT

While Reddy draws his inspiration from premier all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Ben Stokes, he highlighted that he will focus on doing things differently than his idols.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Nitish Reddy said revealed, “I will stick to my role. As for the others (all-rounders), I just like the way they bowl and bat. It doesn’t mean I will play like them. I’m just going to respond to the situation. If the situation demands me to play a big shot, I will play it. If the situation demands me to play till stumps, I’ll be ready for that too. I can do both.”

Nitish Kumar Reddy has already impressed in his limited international appearance so far.

In just his second T20I appearance during the short-format series against Bangladesh, the dynamic all-rounder reached his maiden international fifty with an impressive innings, scoring 74 runs off 34 balls, including four fours and seven sixes and rescued his team from a tough position.
