Injury and rehab pulls down progress of India’s latest talent after missing out on Australia tour

His personal coach opened up on the recent development.

Indian pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who was expected to be part of the India squad that will travel to Australia for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy was missing from the recent 18-member squad announced for the series.

After making his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh, Mayank Yadav had his performances closely monitored by the BCCI and was poised to join India’s squad for the Australia tour as a travelling reserve but unfortunately, the injury-marred young player was once again sidelined.

However, it has now been known that Mayank did not face a fresh injury but the Indian management has plans to use the speedster later.

Mayank’s personal coach, Devendra Sharma opened up about the matter and talked about the recent development.

Mayank Yadav sidelined for extended period

Speaking to The Telegraph, Devendra Sharma revealed, “It’s not that Mayank (currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence on the outskirts of Bengaluru) has sustained a fresh injury, but he has been advised not to play now as they’re looking to have him back for the England ODIs (in January 2025)”.

Mayank’s prospects appeared promising following his India debut in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh, after which he was chosen as a travelling reserve for the current Test series against New Zealand. The coaching staff of Team India has been closely observing his red-ball bowling, and he was also seen as a likely candidate for the T20I tour of South Africa scheduled for next month.

However, given the current scenario, Mayank is out again and will not just miss the South Africa T20Is and the Australia Tests, but yet again has to be on the sidelines for an extended period.
