WATCH: Classy gesture from Pat Cummins during Ashes celebration wins hearts

Pat Cummins had already set a benchmark for being one of the nicest Australian players for his on and off the field demeanor and complemented it with a thumping 4-0 win in his first series as captain.

The Ashes remained largely one-sided but Cummins won hearts for his brilliant captaincy which included giving more power to the bowlers to set their fields and giving someone like Scott Boland his moment in the limelight when he was asked to field near the boundary after his brilliant spell to experience the love of the fans first hand.

But it is another gesture from Cummins that is winning hearts on the internet now. The Australian skipper and team were celebrating the Ashes win in the podium, ready to break open champagne bottles when he noticed Usman Khawaja, a practising Muslim, moving away from the scene because of the alcohol.

Cummins put a halt on the celebrations and gestured to Khawaja to come over and join in the celebrations, delaying the one with the booze to ensure he was included.

The video of Pat Cummins calling up Khawaja became viral on social media in no time.

A Twitter user rightly pointed out that it was “absolute class” from Cummins. “Would be so easy to get caught up in he moment of winning your first Ashes series as captain and not even notice,” read the tweet.

With the recent history surrounding Aussie captains – Steve Smith involved in the ball tampering, sandpapergate incident and Tim Paine caught up in a sexting scandal – Cummins has gone out of his way to ensure the general public falls in love with the Australian cricket team again. With gestures like these, he is winning fans all over the world.
