The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is staring at us. The tournament that kicked off in 2016 as a vehicle for revival of the game in Pakistan has established itself as an integral part of the global T20 hierarchy.
Inarguably the second most successful domestic T20 league in the world, the PSL continues to go from strength to strength, with a great sense of anticipation around the six-team competition, not just in Pakistan but all over the subcontinent and the rest of the globe.
The PSL 2023 is set for the tournament’s re-expansion to venues in Multan and Rawalpindi after being confined to only Karachi and Lahore at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years. The 34-game is more or less evenly spread at the four main centres, with Lahore given hosting rights to the marquee playoffs stage.
The roster is designed in a manner to ensure that all teams with an active PSL home base – Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars – get to play of their ten league stage encounters in home conditions. There were plans to include Quetta and Peshawar in the schedule as well but those couldn’t materialise, forcing Pakistan Cricket Board (PSL) to delay making PSL as a full-fledged home and away event.
