Rohit, who missed the first Test to be with his family for the birth of his second child, will return to lead the Indian team in the Adelaide Test starting on December 6.
The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts on December 6th, and there’s a lot of buzz about the Indian batting order, especially regarding where KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will bat.
Ravi Shastri has suggested that Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle order for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide, rather than opening, to accommodate KL Rahul.

Rohit, who missed the first Test to be with his family for the birth of his second child, will return to lead the Indian team in the Adelaide Test.
Speaking on the ICC Review, Shastri emphasized the importance of Rohit’s experience in the middle order. He believes that Rohit’s presence could be a game-changer for India as they look to take a 2-0 lead against Australia.
Shastri feels that Rohit, with his vast experience, is capable of assessing the best position for himself in the lineup, especially against Australia. He believes that Rohit should choose the spot where he is most dangerous, considering where Australia would least want him to bat.
“It’s a fantastic boost because there’s no doubting his quality,” Shastri said. “He’s very experienced. You need that experience in the middle order.”
“He’s experienced enough to see where he’s most dangerous when it comes to Australia. Where would Australia not like to see him? That’s the position he should choose. And he’s the leader of the pack, so he can afford to do that.”

Former India head coach also highlighted Rahul’s solid form, including his crucial 77 in the second innings in Perth, as a reason to keep him opening. Given that Rohit has had limited preparation since arriving in Australia, Shastri believes it would be best to maintain the same opening combination, with Rohit batting at number five or six.
“I think he (Rahul) should carry on (opening) because Rohit has not had much time since he’s come here (Australia),” Shastri said.
“Very quickly he had to play that Prime Minister’s XI game. But I would say carry on with the same setup. He [Rohit] can bat at five or six.”
With Shubman Gill available for the second Test, it will be intriguing to see how India shapes their batting lineup, particularly with the pink ball and day-night conditions in Adelaide.
