Record-breaking Mumbai Indians sensation picks Aussie legend as his favourite

The 23-year-old is the sixth Indian to take all ten wickets in a first-class cricket match, joining Subhash Gupte, Anil Kumble, and Debasis Mohanty on this list.

On Friday, the medium pacer from Haryana achieved a rare feat by becoming only the third cricketer in Ranji Trophy history to take all ten wickets in an innings. Before him, Bengal’s Premangsu Chatterjee (1956-57) and Rajasthan’s Pradeep Sundaram (1985-86) had accomplished this.

Playing against Kerala, he recorded a remarkable bowling figures of 30.1 overs, 9 maidens, 49 runs, and 10 wickets, as Kerala were all out for 291 in their first innings.

The 23-year-old is the sixth Indian to take all ten wickets in a first-class cricket match, joining Subhash Gupte, Anil Kumble, and Debasis Mohanty on this list.

Kamboj names Glenn McGrath as his favourite bowler

Speaking to Cricbuzz after his record-breaking performance, Kamboj revealed that Glenn McGrath is his favourite bowler.

kamboj recalled meeting Glenn McGrath during a three-day camp in Lahli, organized by the Haryana Cricket Association. Although there were no one-on-one sessions due to the number of players, Anshul found it inspiring to watch McGrath in action and gained valuable insights, such as learning which areas to target while bowling.

“Glenn McGrath. I had the chance to meet him when the Haryana Cricket Association organised a three-day camp in Lahli a few years ago. While there weren’t any one-on-one lessons, as there were many players training under him, just watching him was a great experience. He shared valuable insights with us, like which areas to target,” Kamboj told Cricbuzz.

Kamboj reflects on the influence of Rohit Sharma and Bumrah on his game

Kamboj, who played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, credited Jasprit Bumrah for influencing his game, saying he learned a lot by observing Bumrah’s mindset, composure, and decision-making under pressure. By studying how Bumrah handles challenges, Kamboj aimed to adopt similar qualities to improve his own performance.

“I tried to understand his mindset in different situations. I observed how he handled pressure and how he reacted to various challenges. I paid particular attention to the way he composed himself and made decisions under pressure. I tried to imbibe those qualities,”kamboj added.

Former Indians pacer also mentioned that working with Rohit Sharma was very helpful. He said playing alongside the India captain was a big opportunity and a great experience. Talking to Rohit gave him valuable insights, especially since it was his first IPL.

“He was of great help. Playing alongside the India captain was no small thing, and it was a fantastic experience. Talking to him was really insightful, especially since it was my first IPL,”Kamboj said.
