India’s star pacer, Mohammed Shami, didn’t hold back as he responded to former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments about the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Shami, who was released by the Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, made his return to competitive cricket last week after a year-long break due to knee injury.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that while there will likely be interest from teams in Mohammed Shami during the IPL auction, his injury history could raise concerns. Shami recently spent a considerable amount of time recovering from an injury, which casts doubt on his fitness for the upcoming season.
Manjrekar explained that if a franchise invests heavily in Shami and he suffers another injury mid-season, they may face difficulties in replacing him. This potential risk of losing Shami during the season could result in a decrease in his auction value.
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season,” Manjrekar had said on Star Sports.
“If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,” he added.
In response, Shami shared a screenshot of a post featuring Manjrekar’s opinion on the potential drop in his auction price. Clearly upset by the comment, Shami responded sarcastically, suggesting that Manjrekar should save some of his wisdom for his own future and joking that anyone wanting to know the future should meet him directly.
“Baba ki jay hoooooo. Thodsa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam aayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile,” Shami wrote.
Mohammed Shami last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. After that, he struggled with fitness issues and underwent Achilles heel surgery earlier this year, which kept him out of cricket for an extended period.
Due to his recovery, Shami missed the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024. He was expected to return for the Test series against Bangladesh but couldn’t recover in time. A knee swelling also ruled him out of the New Zealand Tests, and he was ultimately not selected for India’s five-match Test series against Australia.
