Former CSK batter named captain as India announce their squad for Hong Kong Sixes Tournament

The Indian team will start their campaign against the arch-rivals Pakistan on November 1 in Mong Kok before taking on UAE at the same venue.

India have announced their squad for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes Tournament, consisting of seven players. A former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star has been named the captain of the side, with a few fringe players getting a spot.

Robin Uthappa, former Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter, will lead the seven-man side in the tournament. With 59 matches for the Men in Blue, Uthappa has ample experience and the game to hit from the first ball in this exciting tournament.

His last outing for India came in 2015 when he played a T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare but has continued to feature in other tournaments. Recently, he played in the World Championship of Legends and looked in fine touch, playing a few quality knocks with his willow.

Kedar Jadhav, who once remained an integral part of India’s ODI team, is the second batter in the squad and can also give an over with the ball. Overall, he has played 82 matches for India across ODIs and T20Is, and his last game for the Indian team came during a 50-over game against New Zealand in Auckland in 2020.

Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Stuart Binny among other players

Other players in the squad include Manoj Tiwary, who has played 15 matches for India. His last India outing came during an ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015.

Shahbaz Nadeem, who has played two Test matches in India, is the fourth player in the team. Stuart Binny is the all-rounder of the side and has played 23 matches for India across three formats, with his last game back in 2016 during a T20I against the West Indies in Lauderhill.

Shreevats Goswami and Bharat Chipli are other members of the squad. Both have never played in any format for India, even though they have some experience featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Indian team will start their campaign against the arch-rivals Pakistan on November 1 in Mong Kok before taking on UAE at the same venue. They have a decent squad and will go into the tournament as one of the favourites.

India’s squad for the Hong Kong Sixes Tournament: Robin Uthappa (C), Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, Stuart Binny & Bharat Chipli.
