The first day of the match was washed out due to rain, but Day 2 saw the game rescheduled as a 46-overs-per-side contest. The Prime Minister’s XI batted first and posted 240 runs before being bowled out. Harshit Rana was the standout performer for India, claiming four crucial wickets to restrict the opposition.
Rohit, who missed the first Test in Perth due to personal reasons, returned to the lineup for this match. In Perth, KL Rahul had stepped in as the opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and impressed with his performance, helping India secure a convincing victory.
However, in this practice game, Rohit batted at No. 4. He came to the crease after Jaiswal was dismissed for a well-made 45 off 59 balls, and Rahul retired hurt after scoring 27 off 44 balls.
Rohit’s innings was cut short when he attempted to drive an outside-off delivery from Charlie Anderson. The ball caught the edge of his bat and was safely pouched by Oliver Davies at first slip. He faced 11 balls for his 3 runs before being dismissed on the third delivery of the 21st over.
Talking about the match, at the time of writing the report, India are currently at 122-2, needing 119 more runs to secure a win. Shubman Gill and Nitish Kumar Reddy are unbeaten at the crease, continuing the chase after solid contributions from Jaiswal and Rahul.
The practise match offers India a final tune-up before the crucial day-night Test in Adelaide.
