‘We are thinking of them..’ – Rohit Sharma identifies three fringe players India might take to Australia

Rohit namedropped the players in the presser ahead of the series opener against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) later this year is expected to be India’s toughest challenge in the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 (WTC) cycle, slated to start from November 22.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is well aware of it and expressed his intentions of having a strong bench depth for the marquee series.

In the process, Rohit named three young cricketers, who the management is considering taking to Australia.

Pacers Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are the three fringe players who can be a part of the India squad Down Under according to the skipper.

To get them ready, Mayank and Reddy were recently handed their international debuts in the T20I series against Bangladesh. However, Rana was an unused member of that squad. Notably, all three players have now been included as travelling reserves for the three-match New Zealand Test series, starting tomorrow (October 16).

Rohit Sharma reveals Indian management has been keeping a close tab

Rohit said in the presser on the eve of the series opener against New Zealand in Bengaluru,

“You know, the reason we wanted to keep them close to us was because we are thinking of them to take them to Australia. We just want to monitor them and see their workload. We have seen some talent in them. I understand that they have not played a lot of red-ball cricket, but when you see a talent, you want to try and groom them.”

28-year-old fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was also initially named as a travelling reserve for the New Zealand Tests but unfortunately will miss out after he reportedly suffered another injury setback. In Karnataka’s first match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, he bowled just eight out of the 140 overs delivered by his team.
