Star India batter set to miss a Test in Australia due to personal reasons

The player is a key member of the side, and his absence will be felt.

A star Indian player will miss one of the first two Tests against Australia during the Border Gavaskar Trophy later in the year due to personal reasons, according to a report by PTI. The player has reportedly informed the BCCI about his unavailability, even though it’s uncertain which Test match he will miss.

The captain of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma will be unavailable for some part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which will come as a massive blow to the side. According to the PTI, there’s no complete clarity about the situation.

“There isn’t any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

However, if Rohit’s personal issue is sorted before the series, he will be available for the whole series, added the source. “In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in the coming days.”

Abhimanyu Easwaran likely to be a cover for Rohit Sharma

Among the most consistent openers in the domestic arena, Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to replace Rohit Sharma in case he’s unavailable for any part of the series. He will be in Australia at the same time with India A for the A tour and will also be leading them.

Hence, if required, he will come as a cover and open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal Down Under. However, there’s no confirmation about who will lead the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

There are a few players in the side who have captaincy experience by leading their respective franchises in the IPL. Jasprit Bumrah has previously led the team in England in 2022.

It will be interesting to see whether he continues as a leader in the absence of Rohit. The first Test between Australia and India will begin on November 22 in Perth.
