SA vs SL: Hendricks recalled, Pretorius released for 2nd Test

South Africa have recalled Beuran Hendricks to the Test squad to face Sri Lanka in the second Test match. Migael Pretorius was released from the squad, which led to Hendricks’ addition.

The South African squad was already bolstered with the addition of Kagiso Rabada to the Test Squad for the Wanderers Test. Rabada had been ruled out of the first Test after suffering from a groin injury. However, the pacer has recovered in time for the second Test.

The decision to release Migael Pretorius was taken after he suffered a muscle injury to his right shoulder. He will now return to his franchise for his rehabilitation program. Hendricks has only played one Test so far, against England at the same venue. He will begin training with his team members to prepare for the match that commences on January 3.

CSA in a release said that  Beuran Hendricks was added to the squad after ‘the completion of thorough and successful COVID-19 and pre-BSE entry protocols.’ South Africa are currently leading 1-0 in the two match Test series. The hosts defeated Sri Lanka comfortably in the first Test after the visitors were hit by a plethora of injuries.

Faf du Plessis was the standout performer for Proteas, having scored 199 runs in the first innings against Sri Lanka, which earned him a man of the match award.
